I'm evaluating Pica Jet as a replacement for Adobe's Photoshop Album and have a few questions:

- I tried importing my PSA database, but always get the error "Cannot get default catalog!" Any idea what this means or what the problem might be?

- Speed. I've imported a handful of photos--40, a total of about 250 MB. The importing process went slowly (about 5 minutes?) and the thumbnail building is taking forever--as long as 1 minute a piece, I'd say. Even after that was done, any operation--even clicking on a menu--has a 5+ second delay. This is on a P4 1.7 with 512 MB RAM and XP Pro. Is this normal?

- Other features--like the dynamic zoom--work wonderfully fast.

- Is there someway to keep the original image untouched? Forcing you to never edit the original is one of the best features of Photoshop Album, IMO.

I have to say, I'm very impressed with what I see so far!

Dan

Try to locate and choose PSA database manually.

Please, install the latest video card drivers. PJ cannot work normally with Windows standard drivers.

Ah, I see. I didn't realize there were two ways it could work. "Manually" getting the database results in "Invalid Database format!", which obviously doesn't work. This is with a PSA 1.0 database. I haven't installed PicaJet on my home computer to try with my PSA2.0 database. Will either work?

I have the latest drivers installed, it appears. I tried reinstalling them, though, and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Still terribly sluggish.

Well, I've figured out that turning off the "detailed image info" let's everythign go lickety-split fast. Turning on "detailed image info" slows it all back down to a crawl.

Well, I should clarify: everything goes fast except importing. That's still slow.

PicaJet import only PSA 2.0 and PE 3.0 databases.

This is RAW files isn't it?

Hi Alex,

This is actually a pretty good mix of files. Some small jpgs (less than 100 kB), some large jpgs (up to about 3 MB), large scans (tifs up to about 130 MB) and RAW files (from a Nikon 5700, Nikon D70 and Canon 20D).

Should I interpret the silence to mean that PicaJet imports this slowly for everyone?

We cannot fixed this immediately. New graphic engine will be available in PJ 3.0.

I am very interesting to discuss with PicaJet customers and not only about using the skins.

The main reason to using skins is making the program more differently than competitors and make it more attractive.

Unfortunatelly our current skin engine doesn't support built'in Windows skins. You can only download several Windows like skins.

Any ideas suggestions about using skins in the PicaJet 3.0 are welcome!

I have created a new poll regarding for this question here:
