Hi,

Just evaluating the product, it looks really useful. However I wanted to use it to add keywords to my photos prior to submission to a stock photo library, and the 64 char limit on keywords is a show stopper.

It's useful to have a lot of relevant keywords to help buyers in the selection of photos, and my existing library images appear to be imported into Picajet without any limit in their keyword length. I can't however create keywords for new photos without being constrained by the 64 char limit.

Is the 64 char limit there for a good reason? Any chance you could remove it?

Also when I click on an existing field, e.g. description the field goes blank when the cursor first enters the field. The text isn't removed it just becomes invisible. This is a little annoying and makes it harder to edit existing text.

Thanks,

Adam

I'm also evaluating the product.

Yes, I agree that the 64 character field limit for the IPTC keyword field is a show stopper.

See this page:
http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/iptc_naa.html#IPTCchart

It says that the 64 character limit should be *per keyword*.

Maybe the programmer misinterpreted the standard.

I see lots of messages that have gone unreplied by Picojet Support. The only ones replied to are those that have been resolved. This looks bad from a product evaluators viewpoint.

Here is quote from IPTC Specification:

Quote:
2:25 Keywords Repeatable, maximum 64 octets, consisting of graphic characters
plus spaces.
Used to indicate specific information retrieval words.
Each keyword uses a single Keywords DataSet. Multiple keywords
use multiple Keywords DataSets.
It is expected that a provider of various types of data that are related
in subject matter uses the same keyword, enabling the receiving
system or subsystems to search across all types of data
for related material.

What the standard says is actually not that relevant here... the issue is that other products (BreezeBrowser, Photoshop) allow you to to add keywords and do not impose a 64 character limit. Their interfaces let them down compared to yours.

Picajet appears happy to read longer sets of keywords and display them, but will not let a user create keywords beyond 64 characters.

Anyone wanting to submit files to a image library will want to add a lot of keywords to aid in image selection. This limit makes Picajet totally unsuitable for this task.

There is a need for a product which allows the quick addition of keywords to large numbers of photographs in an simple effective manner. You need to fix this limitation for your product to be a player in this market.

Thanks,

Adam

Photoshop adhere IPTC standard and save keywords in 64 character limit. Keywords more then 64 characters saves in XMP.

Alex, I fear that you *are* misinterpreting the IPTC/IIM spec. Each keyword has a maximum of 64 bytes, but you can have as many keywords (that's what the "repeatable" means) as you want. I thought we'd been here before a while back when we were discussing the interpretation of the IPTC spec.

Adobe misinterprets the spec if Photoshop has a 64 byte limit for the old IPTC/IIM metadata... They do seem to have got it right for XMP Core.

Ajefferson, you said "what the standard says is actually not that relevant here" - Aargh - it's attitudes like that that get us into a whole heap of trouble in all sorts of things. Wink

Of course. But this also mean what you can't have more 64 character in the one separate keyword.

If I'm creating keywords with more than 64 characters then I have other problems, possibly an inability to spell, or a defective space bar on my keyboard! Very Happy

The ability to have lots of keywords (each of which is limited to 64 chars) would be great.

Thanks,

Adam
