Is using Microsoft's Direct3D out of the question? I heard that Vista's graphics layer will be significantly faster and more powerful. Moreover, Vista is supposed to natively support OpenGL (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3760). |
Thanks for the link. I am really like to see that MS included support for native OpenGL driver when PicaJet team decided to get rid of the GL engine

If you maintain a backup of each original and one edited/enhanced version, your library's size increases 2-fold. And if you start creating different versions (which I hear the next PJ will have, awesome) for print or web or other, then your library size jumps 3-4 fold.
I realize there are some built-in assumptions in my argument:
a) Not every photo in a library will be edited/enhanced
b) Those with RAW originals will have versions that are significantly smaller than the original.
Nevertheless, I wouldn't consider a size increase of 2-fold negligible. I just feel that having an original and then storing various "pointers" to it with an "array" of effects for each pointer is a far more efficient & elegant solution. This is especially true when versioning is considered. I imagine it like this:
1) You have the original
2) You have a pointer/shortcut to it (let's call it PrintVersion)
3) That PrintVersion shortcut has a list of effects associated to it (e.g. crop 4x6, increase brightness, etc.)
Allow the user to create as many shortcuts as he/she wants and all of a sudden you now have versioning with:
- almost no increase to the library size
- no risk of quality degradation
- easy undo/tweaking
- and one happy customer who will finally stop nagging you about this *LOL*
|
Let me advocate my previous point of view:
- You are right, if you have Original RAW file and DNG file the other lightweight version sizes much smaller the RAW+DNG. 10+10 for example against 1+1+2.
- We need some thoughts about this tasks.

If XMP supports enough editing/postprocessing functions and if PJ can write that kind of XMP metadata, I have no problems with that whatsoever. I'm just looking for a way to edit photos without losing the original and without the need to store a backup of the original. Sounds like XMP editng metadata might be the silver bullet. |
This feature will work for these image formats:
● TIFF
● JPEG
● JPEG 2000
● GIF
● PNG
● PSD (Adobe Photoshop)
● DNG
Quote: | You're very welcome. I'm already content with PJ, just wanted to offer my 2 cents. I'm confident you have your customers' best interest at heart and will do whatever you can to balance their desires and what is feasible. I have no doubt that the handling of multiple effects on-the-fly is the major hurdle here and so I leave it in your very capable hands. |
You are also welcome You can post your feedbacks here or send us directly to support at picajet.com |

Hello, now it's late March 2007. Any new informations about PJ V3 release or features?
Are you still working on PJ V3? Let us know something about the programming-status. |

I was told in this thread — http://www.picajet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=695 — the following:
Quote: | The albums with relative path will be added to the next major PJ version. |
Is anyone able to tell me when the next major PJ version is due for release? There hasn't actually been an answer here to the question initially asked that I can see. |

Looks like it is
There are many upcoming competitors -- some of them even free -- so I think the PicaJet Team (how many are they by the way? One, two persons?) ought to at least make a clear statement when PicaJet v3 is going to be released!
If they wait even longer, many people (including myself) will kick PicaJet although they paid for it and change for example to one of the following projects:
-- blueMarine (free)
-- PictoMio (free)
-- MyPhotoIndex (free)
Not only they're all free; they are also being actively developed, including permanent improvements and forums that are also being read by the developers!

After testing many products I had settled on PJ as my software choice but hadn't quite got round to making the purchase, partly because the support doesn't seem to be happening. Wasn't aware of the products listed so I gave them a go.
Well good news for Picajet; for the time being anyway.
Installed PictoMio and MyPhotoIndex but couldn't get either to run. Like other software I've discounted, I just can't be bothered spend too much time on them. I'm also not convinced PictoMio will remain free once they get it ready for full release but, of course, it depends on the price.
blueMarine looks very promising although still in beta, quite slow and a bit buggy.
Once I finalise my workflow, I'll revisit all 4 products again to confirm which one best suits my needs and expectations.
I would still expect to hear something about PJ V3 in the meantime.

Still no word? wow...
Anyhow, I am now looking into ACDSee Pro 2, or ACDSee 10 Photo Manager. Yea, it costs, but with the support you get and the updates, I think it will be a better investment than the one I made here at PicaJet. |

It's obvious that 2007 has not been a fast year for Picajet.
Personnally, I have totally forget the idea to see the v3 of Picajet available in the near future (neither in the far future to be honest).
As a lot of people of this forum I am currently looking for another software that would be bugs free and quite stable to migrate all my pictures collection...
I am very disapointed because I had great hopes in this software (very simple to use, powerful and with a correct price...) but, unfortunately the developpement team has prefered to make other software (robot folder and so on) to make more money , rather than improving the only really important software (to my eyes) Picajet.
For sure, I would be more careful when I choose my new photo management software ...
Nicolas. |

Well, it is certainly obvious about support, or I should say, lack of. They have had a posting about Viagra in there forums for roughly 2 weeks.
Goes to show the forums are not being addressed either. I need something more reliable, so I am moving on to the ACDSEE Pro version. I had high hopes for PicaJet and thought they would have some follow-through on some of there postings about 3.0 and fixes. But they have proven that is simply not the case.
Cheers |

I was a little surprised that my stupid pseudo-announcement of PicaJet 3 allegedly being released (http://picajet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=832) let to an reaction of the PicaJet team, claiming that there definitly will be a version 3. However, they still don't say when... |

|
|
Hi all,
I'm using PicaJet for all of my pics (~10000) and it works fantastic!
I was searching long time and finally I found the perfect prog: PicaJet.
I really can't express my disappointment that Version 3.0 seems not to be released within this life.
There are so much stupid progs which need to be updated every week and still do not function as expected.
So please PicaJet-Team do not fall asleep and make us happy with a new version!
Thanks,
L. |
