I need to transfer my photo's (10,000+) to a dedicated new hard drive (with a new letter) on the same PC, but want to keep all the categories etc. Most images are RAW files.
What's the best way? It would be good if there were some error checking etc. If I simply transfer in windows, will Picajet keep track and retain all the assigned categories etc?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I suggest you to copy (not move) all the photos with album (DB) to a new HD. After that go to PicaJet menu: File > Manage Albums (F4) > Add. Then go to Recovery Missing Links and reallocate the link to folders.
If all is OK you can delete the source files.
The second way is Write all categories and descriptions back to files and then reimport them again. |

Thanks Alex
I've copied all over, including the database and then created a new album. Problem is all the links still point to the original F drive (now on J)
How do I "go to Recovery Missing Links and reallocate the link to folders". I can find Recover Missing Files, but that seems to be a differant process and doesn't help.
Sorry to be blind!
Cheers

Nope, don't have that option in the menu, just recover missing files. I've sent you a screenshot of the menu via email.
Cheers

Still no joy.
If I create a new blank album, then recover missing files finds nothing with no options available.
If I add album, and refer it to the copied database directoy on the new J drive all is imported perectly, but still shows the original path to F.
Thanks again

NB I looked at writing the data to the files, but because we use RAW it doesn't work. This shows up how urgently we need IPTC and EXIF data synchronisation in RAW! |
